Protests in the Ukraine

At present, there have been 3 fatalities and numerous injuries due to the protests.

President Yanukovych recently declared that they did not wish the Ukraine to be in association with the EU and wished to remain closely tied to Russia. The protests have been caused by a general rebellion against the Yanukovych government and their views. Some far right activists have incited violence and exacerbated the situation to dangerous levels of fighting between protesters and police, with citizens being caught in the crossfire.

Visitors are advised to be very cautious to not get caught up in protests, the most violent currently occurring in the capital city, Kiev. Many shops and businesses are closing at 4pm and people are advised to avoid wandering the streets at night time. Travellers are generally being advised to avoid visiting the Ukraine until the current situation has calmed down.
