May Day Protests in Turkey

May day riots broke out throughout the city. Local reports suggest that up to 40,000 police were deployed to control and manage the situation. Whilst some protests were peaceful, violent protests erupted in some areas of the city including Taksim Square. Protesters are complaining about the current authoritarian style government. This government, lead by prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been accused of being involved in corruption and scandal.
